Masses at St. Joseph’s Malvern for Palm Sunday and Easter Ceremonies
After consulting with the Parish Pastoral Council, I wish to inform you that I have decided to increase the numbers permitted to attend Mass at St Joseph’s Malvern for Palm Sunday and the Easter Ceremonies to 150. As the 1.5 metre social distancing cannot be maintained all attending will be required to wear face masks unless under the age of 12 or have an exemption. Anyone claiming exemption will be asked to provide documentary evidence. Bookings closed this Thursday. Those who have already pre-booked will be assured of their place. This decision will continually be reassessed on feedback received to ensure that everyone feels safe. Changes in regulations will also continue to be monitored for any changes.
Masks will be available for the volunteers to give to anyone who needs them upon arrival. All attending will be asked to register with the QR Code. Volunteers will be on hand to assist anyone who needs it. To assist the registration process all those attending are asked to be at the Church around 10-30 minutes prior to each ceremony commencing. Due to the increased numbers the distribution of Communion and leaving the Church after Mass will need to be regulated. Please follow the directions of the volunteers regarding this. Thanks to those who have already volunteered. More help is needed for all the ceremonies at St Joseph’s Malvern particularly with assisting with registering via QR Code. Please let me know by emailing me if you can help. The number of people permitted to attend Masses at Cabrini Chapel is still limited to 75. Thank you for your understanding and your support.
Masses at Cabrini
I have heard that there have been some concerns expressed in the community over the parish’s return to having Masses at Cabrini on a Saturday evening. Please either phone me on 0410 894 651 or email email me or see me in person if you do have concerns. It is important information to have.
Changes to Liturgy for Easter Ceremonies
There will be some changes to our Easter Ceremonies this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. There are several things we will not be able to do but the good news is we can gather.
Mass will start inside the church. There will, be no outdoor procession. Everyone is asked to bring their own palm/branch. and people will have been asked to bring own palm/branch.
Holy Thursday 1st April 2021
There will be no washing of the feet. There will be no procession at the end of Mass. The consecrated hosts will remain in Tabernacle. Because volunteers are required to clean the Church at the end of Mass there will be no private prayers in church until 11pm. Everyone is kindly asked to do private prayers at home.
Good Friday 2nd April 2021
There will be no cross over the heads of people. There will be no adoration of the cross by kissing it. Time will be allocated in the ceremony for some quiet reflection.
Easter Vigil, Saturday 3rd April 2021
The Ceremony will commence at the back of the Church. There will be no fire outside. No tapers will be used this year.
Future Planning Group
Late last year I mentioned that a Future Planning Group was formed for the purpose of looking at what is the vision for our Parish in the next 20 years. It was decided that the first step was to consult both our Parish and School Communities. For this purpose a survey has been put together which all parishioners and school families are invited to complete. Please go to this link. I encourage all to please complete this survey. For those who cannot access this survey electronically paper copies are available at the back of the Church.
