Acknowledgement of Country

Last weekend at mass parishioners were invited to consider how we as a parish will adopt an Acknowledgement of Country.

An Acknowledgement of Country is a way of showing awareness of and respect for the traditional Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander owners of the land on which a meeting or event is being held, and of recognising the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to their Country.

Please read this document prepared by Bernard Metcalfe (former member of the PPC) which explains the journey the Parish Pastoral Council, as well as the broader parish, have taken since last year which has led us to the point of inviting feedback on our Acknowledgement of Country and the parish’s next step in reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and sisters.
