Mass Coordinators

Specific Activities
The Mass Co-coordinator is responsible for the setting up and putting away of everything required for Masses over the weekend. In addition, the Coordinator ensures that Readers and Eucharistic Ministers are present and liaises with the Music Group coordinators.
Members need to arrive approximately 20 minutes prior to the start of each Mass.
Time Commitment Required by Members
Approximately 1¾ hours per month except when there are 5 Sundays in the month.
Areas for Future Development
To continue to provide Coordinators for all weekend Masses, Easter ceremonies and Christmas, and ensure training is available as required.
New Members
New members are welcome and will need to undertake training.

Music Group

Specific Activities
The Music Group coordinates and leads the musical and singing elements of the liturgical life of the parish, including regular weekly masses and major feasts (Easter and Christmas).
Member of the group have skills such as:

  • Keyboard/piano players;
  • Instrumental musicians;
  • Singers; and
  • Coordinators (esp. at times of feasts and for assisting with children during Christmas)

Time Commitment Required by Members
For regular weekly Masses, around 2 hours once per month (1 hour mass + 1 hour set-up/ rehearsal and preparation). For feasts, rehearsals are conducted in the weeks prior (usually 2-3 rehearsals of around 1½ hours each).
New Members
New members are welcome, particularly younger musicians who can contribute to the Christmas liturgies and undertaking coordination roles. We would especially appreciate pianists and instrumentalists. Parishioners can offer assistance for single events or tasks, particularly during the festive seasons.
Areas for Future Development
The group aims to continue our service, grow our numbers (especially instrumentalists and pianos) and expand our repertoire to provide more opportunities. The group will conduct workshops to develop our skills. It has performed at the Refugee Benefit concert (“Musical Soiree”).

Ministers of the Word

Specific Activities
The role of the group is to provide Readers or Lectors for Masses at Cabrini on Saturday evening and St Joseph’s on Sunday morning and evening.
The Coordinator:

  • publishes a roster four times a year to members;
  • generates the rosters for major feasts, such as Holy Week and Christmas;
  • identifies and invites new members; and
  • runs induction sessions for new members.

Time Commitment Required by Members
Approximately 2 or 3 times every 3 months.
New Members
New members are welcome and induction is organised by the coordinator.

Ministers of Communion at Mass

Specific Activities
To distribute Communion at the St Joseph’s and Cabrini masses.
The specific duties of the Coordinator include:

  • to liaise with other group leaders;
  • to construct the quarterly roster and avoid clashes; and
  • to run training sessions.

Time Commitment Required by Members
At a Mass which is convenient (approximately monthly)
New Members
New members are welcome and need to attend a training session which is normally held around once a year (or as needed).

Ministers of Communion in the Home

Specific Activities
To distribute Communion to the elderly and the sick in their homes.
Time Commitment Required by Members
Weekly or monthly depending on the needs of parishioners. Members determine their own length of commitment.
New Members
New members are welcome and need to attend a training session which is normally held around once a year (or as needed).

Sacristans

Specific Activities
Members oversee the laundering of altar linen and tea towels, the upkeep of the vestments, as well as maintain supplies of altar breads, candles, incense and charcoal for the thurible.
Time Commitment Required by Members
Approximately 2 hours per week.
New Members
New members are welcome.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Specific Activities
Members of the group convene the monthly Children’s Liturgy of the Word at Mass on the first Sunday of the month. This also includes the preparation and distribution of liturgy material. They coordinate a Mass morning tea and other related activities.
Time Commitment Required by Members
The time commitment is around 3 hours per month.
Areas for Future Development

  • To continue to refine and consolidate the liturgy processes so that they are an anticipated opportunity for our youngest parishioners and their families;
  • Building of an introduction to Mass; and
  • Continued monthly morning teas after Mass.

Consideration is also being given to holding a Family BBQ between seasons.
New Members
New members are welcome and will join a monthly roster for liturgy help. A current ‘Working with Children’ card is also required.
Parishioners can offer assistance for single events or tasks as required.

Hospitality Group

Specific Activities
Members perform a number of roles including collating material to be given out to parishioners on their arrival at Mass, welcoming new parishioners or visitors and providing refreshments after Mass.
Time Commitment Required by Members
Members are required to arrive at the church 30 minutes before Mass.
Most members are rostered on 3 times a month which involves 1½ hours per month.
New Members
New members are welcome, and parishioners can provide assistance for single events or tasks such as assisting with refreshments on a particular day.

Floral Preparation Group

Specific Activities
Members provide flower arrangements for the church throughout the year, as well as for key events on the Calendar such as Easter and Christmas. They also help couples wanting wedding arrangements.
Members buy flowers and arrange times that are suitable to them to complete the flower arrangements.
Time Commitment Required by Members
1½ to 2 hours per week. Consists of three groups doing one month each.

Liturgical Banners

Specific Activities
Members of the group oversee the changing of the Banners according to Liturgical Season and Special Feasts.
Time Commitment Required by Members
1-2 hours per changeover of Liturgical season.
Areas for Future Development
To create a prayerful environment via Liturgical Banners.
New Members
