The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step of initiation into the community of faith that is the Catholic Church. It is the beginning of a life of faith and incorporates the newly baptised into the community of Christ’s disciples. At the baptism of children, parents are called to accept their responsibility for the faith formation of their children.
This entails a commitment to nurture their child in both faith and love. Because of this important calling we invite all parents to participate in a baptism formation session prior to the baptism of their child. During this session you will be prepared for the celebration of your child’s baptism and helped to explore the implications of your role as the first teachers of your child “in the ways of faith”.
As a first step towards baptism, parents who wish their child to grow as a Christian in the Catholic community are invited to present their child to the parish community at one of our Sunday Masses during the weekend prior to the Baptism. This gives the parish community an opportunity to formally welcome the child, meet the family, and to pray for parents and their child.
Baptisms are normally scheduled in the parish on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, after the 10.00 am Mass.
We recommend that you notify us of your intention to organise the baptism of your child as early as possible. This gives time for parents to attend one of the pre-baptism formation sessions which are held regularly in the parish.
